Ahead of our first Ask Anything Q&A, looking at setting up in business, we caught up with panellist Michael Steel to find out about his experience.

Tell us about your expertise

I run a national Apprenticeship provider which delivers work based learning qualifications to people in a variety of industries including Digital Marketing, Accountancy, Compliance, HR, Payroll & Management.

How long have you been a JCI member?

10 years

What’s the best thing about being a JCI member?

Being surrounded by likeminded individuals who are motivated to achieve. I like to succeed and hearing others achieving their goals motivates me to be better. Being a JCI Member has enabled me to create a network of people which has benefitted my business and made me a better leader.

Tell us about a JCI highlight

A JCI highlight was meeting a fellow member who introduced me into their business to deliver apprenticeships. This single contract contributed towards half my turnover that year and a big factor in my business growing quicker.

Also, attending my first JCI UK National Convention in Sheffield, 2011.

How has JCI helped you in your career?

JCI helped me by having leadership roles and projects to get involved in. Participation for me was the key. Others leaders locally and nationally demonstrating leadership skills and showing encouragement. It would have been easy to sit back and wait for something to happen – JCI enables people to be creative, start the project and be the leader.
