Meet Our 2021 Local Presidents JCI Nottingham Isabel Kaaramees
JCI is a place to develop your leadership skills, meet inspiring people and make an impact in your local community. It is a global, not-for-profit organisation for 18 to 40 year olds, run by its members for its members. JCI’s mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.
JCI members are from many different backgrounds, cultures and professions, but all share common values and passion to develop themselves and support and improve their communities.

Local President: Isabel Kaaramees

Local Organisation: JCI Nottingham

How long have you been a member: 3 years

How did you hear about JCI? I participated in an entrepreneurship course run by JCI in Estonia and was directly hooked.

Why did you join JCI? I joined JCI as I was looking to surround myself with active and inspiring professionals who are not stuck in the corporate mindset but who look broader and further at the wider world and society.

Can you briefly tell me about your background in life and JCI? I grew up in a small, technology-led, green European country Estonia where I developed my interest in entrepreneurship. I first joined JCI in Estonia as a member and when I moved to the UK, I decided to move my JCI membership over to JCI UK.

What’s your profession?  I am a social media creator and an entrepreneur

Can you use what you have learned in JCI in your job? JCI has allowed me to meet and connect with a variety of people from different sectors all over the world which has helped me to become more aware and more open to new experiences and (business) opportunities.

What was it that made you put yourself forward for the role as Local President? I decided to put myself forward as the Deputy President and later as the Local President shortly after moving to the UK and joining the JCI organisation here as I believe that the best way to learn something is to just start doing it. As the Local President I have already had the chance to meet with many new people (which is very helpful being new in a country)  and I also had the chance to do things I would not have done otherwise.

What has been your proudest moment as an active member in JCI so far? JCI Nottingham’s Hackathon 2020

Why should more people join JCI? In a world where knowledge and connections are the real currency, JCI offers all young professionals an opportunity to improve themselves and their network in a genuine and supportive environment that will actually have a big impact on their life.

Who is a leader you admire? Otto von Bismarck, one of the greatest statesmen of world history. I greatly admire his deep understanding of power dynamics and his ability to be patient and choose the correct time to act in order to turn his vision into reality.

Do you have a favorite quote? ‘Knowledge is power’
