Race For Life, Southsea

Thousands of women took part in the Race For Life event in Southsea at the weekend. There were around 6000 entrants for the 5km and 10km events, running around Southsea Common and the seafront to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

JCI took the opportunity to give something back to the community by volunteering our time and services at the event on a fine sunny Sunday. Jasmine, Michelle, David, Paul and Ian took part as volunteer race marshalls. We were each assigned a marshalling location around the course, cheering and encouraging the participants. We were also giving advice and being the eyes and ears of the race coordination team.

We were in radio contact with the course manager, keeping them up-to-date with the progress of the races – when the lead runner and back-markers had passed our locations. We had a fantastic morning – and all in the name of a very good cause.

The JCI team met up afterwards for a well-deserved drink and bite to eat at a local pub. A great way to unwind and to catch up on events after a good morning’s work ‘giving back’ to the local community.
