Introducing 2018 Deputy National President - Mark Smith
We caught up with Mark Smith from JCI Sheffield, elected at our AGM on Saturday as 2018 Deputy National President for JCI UK. How do you feel about being the 2018 Deputy National President for JCI UK? I am over the moon, excited, honoured and very much looking forward to working with everyone next year. What does the role entail? My role of Deputy National President will involve supporting the 2018 National President Ben Hawley, including representing JCI UK internationally, supporting the National Board and our network of Chambers across the country, building a team of Local Deputy Presidents and leading the National Chamber Task Force. The Task Force focuses on helping new and emerging Chambers and identifying opportunities for creating new JCI Chambers as well as supporting existing Chambers. What are you looking forward to the most in 2018? All sorts! Representing JCI UK internationally and I can’t wait to meet more of our JCI members up and down the country and to see how they are developing and growing through their JCI journey and how they are going to be a world changer. What do you plan to do in 2018? As well as supporting the National President, National Board and Chambers, the year as Deputy is very much a learning, listening and planning year for when I will lead the organisation in my year as National President in 2019. Therefore, my focus in 2018 will be serving the organisation in helping to deliver the 2018 national plan of action which is currently being developed. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? I’ve mentioned that I will be leading the Chamber Task Force next year.  I’m very keen to hear from anyone, current members, past members, senators and partners who are interested in getting involved to help develop our existing Chambers but also support the creation and development of new Chambers.  Please drop me a line if you are interested. Whilst I’m extremely looking forward to 2018, there is still lots to do and celebrate as we approach our final quarter of 2017.  We’ve already seen a growth in membership nationally, lots of local projects making a real impact in the community and of course World Congress in Amsterdam and National Convention in Southampton in November to look forward to. Finally, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me both within JCI and outside of JCI - my friends, family, employers. Thank you all for believing in me, inspiring me and encouraging me. E: mark.smith@jciuk.org.uk
