The planning and preparations have started on the 24th Secret Santa Appeal.

This incredible institution built on not only the committment and enthusiasm of Junior Chamber members but the amazing generousity of the people of the Bradford District.

The success of the appeal I believe is based on two very important things, firstly, the general public are good at heart and that they won't leave a child to suffer at Christmas and secondly, the value donors spend on a gift actually goes to the child that they have chosen.

The Pulse and this year's sponsor (for the third year running), 5 Rise Shopping Centre, Bingley ensure that the costs of running the appeal are met such as flyers, posters, stickers and tags.

The Kirkgate Shopping Centre in Bradford have supported this appeal pretty much from the day it started which is an outstanding example of a community partnership.

For about eight years JCI Bradford continues to coordinate this appeal in Halifax and Huddersfield too. These appeals were once run by local junior chamber organisations in these areas but now JCI Bradford ensures children in these areas still get support from their local community.  It should be recognised that Bev Tabener, owner of Huddersfield Wools in the Queensgate Market, Huddersfield has been crucial to that success.  The Victoria Theatre, Halifax has for many years being a drop-off point in Halifax but had to bow out this year and Eureka!, the national children's museum is now this year's drop-off point.

It is an inspiring and humbling experience to be involved in the Secret Santa Appeal.  When you see just how many children need our help and then someone comes to the appeal stand and apologises that they can't afford much but hand you a gift regardless.
